HIGH-STRENGTH GYPSUM-ASH COMPOSITIONS
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
This study examines the structure and properties of gypsum ash composites, which are environmentally friendly building materials. They are manufactured using mixtures containing, in addition to gypsum binder, a modifier based on dry-stripped fly ash with a high calcium oxide content (free lime). This particular chemical composition hinders the widespread use of such ash in the construction industry. Free calcium oxide, in large quantities (over 5%), is the cause of destructive processes in hardened gypsum. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to investigate the influence of free calcium oxide in high-calcium fly ash on the synthesis of high-strength gypsum composites, as this will enable the efficient disposal of large-scale industrial waste. This article presents the results of an experimental study analyzing the properties of high-strength composites obtained by varying the ash content in composites based on an α-modified gypsum binder. The study demonstrated that the use of ash with a high content of "free lime" as an active component in the composite allows for a strength of over 95 MPa, which is almost three times greater than that of pure gypsum. The introduction of a highly dispersed ash component enhances the composite's properties due to the synergy of mechanical and physicochemical effects on its structure and the properties of the modified gypsum. A general assessment of the structural and physicomechanical properties can be formed based on the results of studies of the modified gypsum's key characteristics in comparison with chemical and microstructural analysis data. Furthermore, a study of the pore space of the gypsum confirmed the high efficiency of introducing dry-stretched ash into the modified high-strength gypsum composite.
